Canada Turns 150 on July 1, and our 4th of July Community Celebration
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The City of Plattsburgh and our partners are excited to announce two events in the beginning of July: Canada’s 150th birthday celebration and our annual 4th of July Community Celebration.
Our friends to the north in Canada will celebrate their 150th Birthday on Saturday, July 1. The City of Plattsburgh & Plattsburgh Blues & Jazz is proud to present Dawn Tyler Watson, Canada’s top blues/jazz musician. The award-winning musician and her band will perform Saturday, July 1 at 7p.m. in the Lion’s Club Bandshell.
To continue the festivities, the 4th of July Community Celebration will return with the popular Red, White & Blue Relay, Parade, live music and fireworks! To kick things off, the 2nd Annual Red, White & Blue Relay begins and ends at City Hall Place. The RW&B Relay is an event for all ages & abilities. This is a Relay-only race with three runners/walkers making up a relay team. Runners/walkers will complete the 1-mile course. Each RW&B Relay Team must consist of three members. The first member of the team will receive a RED race shirt, and will be the first heat of the run. Team member #2 will receive a WHITE race shirt and will be the second runner/walker for the team. Team member #3 will receive a BLUE race shirt and they will be the final runner/walker for the team. Teams will receive one mini-American flag with a timing chip affixed to the flag. The team members must carry this flag during the run and then pass it on to the next member of your team. Register today at www.adirondackcoastevents.com.
At 1p.m. is the annual 4th of July Parade! The theme for the 2017 parade is ‘Together in Music’; we encourage all parade entries to be as musical as possible! Last year there were 50 businesses and organizations participating and ready to impress a panel of judges in the reviewing stand. Special thanks to First Weekends, who will be awarding the top prize for best music-themed parade entry. To register, go to www.surveymonkey.com/r/4thplattsparade.
A Food Court will be set up in the parking lot next to lower Court Street. Tammy’s Lunch Box, Bronx Bistro, King’s Concessions, Reber Valley, Frosty Cow, Adirondack Maple Treats and Blondies will be serving up your favorite treats.
Spend the day enjoying musical performances from the Trinity Park stage, including local favorites Giovanini Bucci and Taylor LaValley and their bands. Head down to the Lions Club Bandshell at 6p.m. for the Balkun Brothers performance to be followed by the one and only Sugar Ray Rayford! Rayford is a legendary internationally known American electric blues singer and songwriter. He released three albums to date and in 2016 was nominated for 4 Blues Music Awards. Don’t miss the spectacular fireworks display at 9p.m.!
The Mayor’s Cup Festival and Regatta is July 6-9. Stay tuned for event line-up!
