The City of Plattsburgh, New York seeks a qualified Automotive Mechanic for a permanent appointment at its Municipal Lighting Department (MLD). The Mechanic will be responsible for maintaining its fleet of 47 vehicles, trailers, and equipment which includes seven line trucks and two digger derrick trucks. This is skilled work involving responsibility for the complete overhaul, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of heavy and light automotive equipment including but not limited to repair of computerized gasoline and diesel engines with associated computerized emissions, clutches, torque converters, drive lines, chassis, brakes, steering assemblies, and accessories on self-propelled and non-self-propelled vehicles and equipment as well as utilizing computerized diagnostic equipment to diagnose problems. The work requires a thorough knowledge of the trade and the ability to accurately troubleshoot diagnostic codes. Applicant must have a valid New York State (NYS) CDL Class A driver’s license and a valid NYS Vehicle Inspection License/Certification to perform NYS vehicle inspections including computerized emissions testing, at time of appointment. In addition, applicant needs to have knowledge and hands-on experience with hydraulic systems which are used on our line trucks and digger derricks. Applicant should also be an experienced welder.
